Human trafficking is one of the most profitable forms of organised crime, but it is people who pay the price. To mark the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on 30 July 2025, the NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner, Dr James Cockayne, will host a critical webinar titled “Unmasking the True Cost of Online Scams.” This important event will shed light on a growing and often-overlooked dimension of online scams: their link to human trafficking.

We are proud to announce the publication of “Guidelines for Repatriation and Reintegration: Supporting Survivors of Forced Criminality”, a comprehensive four-volume manual developed by the Asia Freedom Network. This vital resource is designed to equip civil society organisations, practitioners, and local communities in repatriated countries with the tools necessary to support the reintegration of survivors of forced criminality.

Among the key voices at the forum was Mechelle B.J. Moore, CEO of Global Alms Incorporated and a leading advocate in the fight against transnational crime and human trafficking. As a panellist, Moore lent her deep field experience to the session titled “The ‘Living Hell’: Reality inside the Scam Compounds & the Impact of Trafficking to the Victim.” 

As Mechelle B.J. Moore noted during the forum, forced criminality through cyber scams is not just an economic or legal issue, it’s a humanitarian crisis unfolding in real time. Our response must be as fast and as coordinated as the syndicates we're up against.

Her influence extends beyond operational work. Moore has served as a subject matter expert for academic institutions such as Charles Sturt University, where she has contributed to postgraduate education and research on transnational crime in the Mekong subregion.
