Understanding the Global Scam Center Crisis: Atlas Free Hosts Expert Panel on World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

Updated: 17 hours ago

In recognition of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, Atlas Free invites the global community to a crucial conversation about one of today’s most pressing humanitarian issues: the rise of scam compounds tied to human trafficking networks.

Join in for a live panel discussion titled "Understanding the Global Scam Center Crisis" on Wednesday, July 30, from 22:00 to 23:00 GMT+7 (8:00 AM – 9:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM ET). This virtual event will bring together frontline leaders, academic experts, and victim service providers who are deeply engaged in confronting and dismantling these criminal enterprises.

A Growing Global Crisis

Across Southeast Asia, particularly along the Thai-Myanmar border, thousands of individuals are being trafficked and coerced into operating scam centers; cybercrime hubs run by organised criminal networks. These compounds not only exploit vulnerable individuals but also present serious regional and international security concerns. The upcoming panel will provide firsthand insights into the scale of the crisis, the tactics used by traffickers, and the critical response mechanisms in place.

A Distinguished Panel of Experts

Moderated by Ambassador John Richmond, Chief Impact Officer at Atlas Free and former U.S. Ambassador to Combat Trafficking in Persons, the panel includes:

  • Monica Kyamazima – Uganda Country Director at EverFree, who brings a global south perspective on reintegration and survivor support.

  • Mechelle Moore – CEO of Global Alms Incorporated, based in Mae Sot, Thailand, working on the frontline of prevention and victim assistance.

  • Jacob Sims – Visiting Fellow at Harvard University’s Asia Center, offering academic insight into the networks and socio-political factors driving the crisis.
