Asia Freedom Network Appoints Mechelle B.J. Moore as Transnational Crime Specialist

The Asia Freedom Network has announced the appointment of Mechelle B.J. Moore as its new Transnational Crime Specialist, marking a significant step forward to combating human trafficking and organised crime across the Asia Pacific region.

With more than 15 years of frontline experience in child protection, survivor advocacy, and trauma-informed care, Moore brings an unmatched depth of expertise to this critical consulting role. As the CEO of Global Alms Incorporated and the founder of Yes She Matters, a survivor-led initiative, her leadership is rooted in both strategic policy work and real-world impact.

Moore is widely recognised for her specialised focus on forced criminality, online scams, and cyber slavery; emerging and rapidly evolving threats that exploit some of the most vulnerable populations across Asia. Her work has placed her at the forefront of regional anti-trafficking efforts, where she has collaborated with law enforcement, military personnel, civil society, embassies and international partners to dismantle trafficking networks and disrupt illicit economies.

Her influence extends beyond operational work. Moore has served as a subject matter expert for academic institutions such as Charles Sturt University, where she has contributed to postgraduate education and research on transnational crime in the Mekong subregion. She has also worked on projects with DT Global and DT Institute, contributing valuable insight into the shifting dynamics of organized crime in Southeast Asia.

Her field expertise has earned global attention. Moore has been featured in major international media, including CNN's A Chinese Criminal Network is Using Modern Day Slaves, Deutsche Welle's Scam Factory: Behind Asia's Cyber Slavery, 60 Minutes Australia's Human Trafficking Victims Tortured into Scamming Innocent People and the documentary Trafficked to Australia, where she’s helped shine a light on the shadowy world of modern-day slavery and the digital exploitation of trafficking victims.

By welcoming Moore into this new leadership role, the Asia Freedom Network is sending a clear message: it is doubling down on its commitment to address transnational crime with both innovation, integrity and collaboration. With Moore’s proven track record and survivor-centered approach, the Network is poised to make a deeper, lasting impact in the fight for freedom and justice throughout the region.
